Fantastic Porsche Collection going under the hammer in a week's time

Some people have the good fortune to collect rare and beautiful works of art and the late Matthew Drendel is one of them and he spent his time gathering gorgeous racing Porsches.

The best thing about a collection of rare cars is that you get to enjoy them when you are alive and your family can sell them off at a hefty premium after you have no more need for it.

Among the cars in this collection, which will go under the hammer of Gooding & Co in Florida next Tuesday.

The collection contains million-dollar rarities such as the 917 Can-Am monsters, a 962 Group C racer, factory 911 racers and even a 944 S2 Cabriolet.

Steve McQueen's million-dollar racing suit

If you want to know what a million-dollar racing suit looks like, this is it. And it is not even a real racing suit, it is a suit that Steve McQueen wore when filming Le-Mans.

It seems that fictional racing suits are just as valuable as one that has seen the heat of battle on the body of a real race driver.

The price paid for this Gulf-Oil coloured suit at the Profiles in History auction was USD984,000.
The price went beyond the auctioneers estiamte of between USD200-300K.
