According to VW and DRB-Hicom, the answer is yes, because the first batch of cars arrived in Pekan partially assembled and workers here only put together the different completed modules, this is defined as CKD1.
In the meantime they are evaluating some local vendors for basic parts to be sourced locally and at this stage, called CKD2, the cars will arrive in kit form and parts like tyres, rubber mats and simple components are sourced locally.
CKD 3 is when the kits comprise 60 per cent of the car while the remaining 40 per cent of components are sourced locally or in Asean, this is to comply with the requirements of free movement of goods under the Asean Free Trade Agreement.
