PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) recently organised the first leg of the PETRONAS Xtra Challenge series that saw the participation of 26 members of Gen 2 Club of Malaysia-Central Region driving around the city while having to solve challenges along the way. The cars were powered by PETRONAS’ breakthrough fuel, PRIMAX 95 Xtra for the 50-km journey.


The Challenge was organised as part of PDB’s effort to boost product understanding and appreciation as well as to engage with its valued customers in a relaxed setting.

After the first leg, the Challenge will be carried out in the Southern region in October, followed by the Northern region in November as well as Sabah and Sarawak in December.

Initiative by PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad to boost product understanding & customer engagement

Petaling Jaya, 5 October 2011 – As part of its efforts to further boost product understanding and appreciation, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) kick-started the next phase of the PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 Xtra campaign with the PETRONAS XTRA Challenge targeting 300 customers nationwide over the three-month period. The first leg of a series of this Challenge was organized at the central region involving 26 members of the Gen 2 Club of Malaysia-Central Region driving around the city, powered by a tank full of the F1-inspired PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA fuel.
The half-day interactive session was one of PDB’s platforms to engage with its customers in a relaxed and non-formal setting besides showcasing its innovative products. During the ride that covered three PETRONAS Service Stations (PSS), participants faced fun challenges and contests at each of the PSS.
The PETRONAS XTRA Challenge is one of PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad’s efforts to engage with its customers. It provides a platform for customers to experience the many products under the PETRONAS group of brands.
The challenge was designed to enable to participants to not just enjoy the activity but more importantly to appreciate the superior power and technology of the PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA.
Launched in April 2011, the PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA has proven to deliver superior power and greater kilometres per litre, which translates to higher savings for its valued customers. The robust combination of advanced combustion improver and friction modifier in the PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA delivers efficient combustion and reduces internal friction to achieve maximum benefit for every drop of fuel burned. In addition, the new synthetic detergent used in the fuel also provides superior edge to clean and maintain engine cleanliness for optimum performance.
Overall, the new PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA with advanced multifunctional additive package has clearly proven to deliver more power, better acceleration and enhanced fuel economy as compared to the typical Malaysian commercial gasoline.

According to Ir Izuddin Husaini Md Yusof, the Senior General Manager for Retail Business Division, “A lot of resources in terms of time, effort, technology and funding have been allocated to develop this innovative product. The ‘XTRA’ here is the result of PETRONAS’ two years of continuous research and development, driven by our passion for perfection to bring only the best to the road users.”

The XTRA Challenge was flagged off at the PETRONAS station USJ 20 and the participants drove to the PETRONAS station Jalan Plumbum, Shah Alam and moved to PETRONAS station Bandar Puteri, Puchong. The participants had to return to the finishing point which is PETRONAS station USJ 20, to fully experience the power of PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA. At each of the station, participants were divided into seven teams and were required to complete the assigned challenges before continuing their journey.
The participants exchanged their exciting experiences and provided positive feedback on using PETRONAS’ latest breakthrough fuel. As a token of appreciation for their participation and valuable inputs, The Gen 2 Club was also presented with a memento to mark the occasion by Ir Izuddin.
One of the participants, Mohd Shahrul Nizam M Arif, 29, who was clearly delighted with the performance of PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA said, “I could definitely feel the power of PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA throughout the journey. Both acceleration and engine at start-up point were noticeably smoother. I’m really satisfied with the result and will definitely use only PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 XTRA hereon.”
The day was made merrier with the participation of close to 1000 customers in the various activities held especially in conjunction with the PETRONAS XTRA Challenge at the three designated PSS. Customers aged between 5 and 70 who visited the PSS took part in the colouring contest, lucky draw and trivia challenges.
Following the success of the inaugural series, the PETRONAS XTRA Challenge is already scheduled for the Southern region on 15 and 22 October, followed by the Northern region on 12 and 26 November. To reach out to more customers, the convoy will also be carried out in Sabah and Sarawak on 3 and 17 December.
